Niagara County Sheriff's deputies arrested a 45-year-old Gasport man on Thursday and charged him with shoplifting $28.98 worth of merchandise from Tops in Lockport.
According to the report, Jeremy J. Chiappone of Hartland Road took two items from Tops, removed them from their packaging and placed them in his pocket.
The report states that when confronted by NCSO, Chiappone "asked if he could pay for the items with the $100 bill that he had in his pocket in lieu of getting arrested. Patrol stated that he could not."
Chiappone was transported to the NC Jail and held by a $100 police bail. He was ordered to appear at the Town of Lockport Court on Tuesday.
