Paul Bona, former superintendent of the Royalton-Hartland School District died Monday in Florida, where he moved following his retirement in June of 2009.

Bona, 66, had nearly 40 years in the education field. His career stretched from that of an accounting and business teacher in the Auburn Enlarged City School District, to teaching micro and macro economic theory at Auburn Community College, to interning as assistant superintendent for finance at the Auburn district. He was the director of occupational education at Cayuga-Onondaga Board of Cooperative Services before being named assistant superintendent at the Poland Central School District in Poland, and then superintendent of schools at Elizabethtown-Lewis School District before his final educational position as Roy-Hart superintendent.

Born Feb. 14, 1947 in Auburn, he was the son of the late Paul J. Bona, Sr. and Antoinette J. (nee DeAngelis) Bona.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Mary (nee Pascazi), sons Paul J. (Kristen Wilzinski) Bona III of Auburn, Christopher P. Bona of Lockport, daughters Christina M. Bona and Maria L. (Joel D. Fritton) Fritton, both of Odessa, Fla., and granddaughter Addison T. Fritton.

A visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until noon on Saturday at Trinity Memorial Gardens in Odessa, Fla. A memorial will be held at noon.

EDITOR'S NOTE: An earlier version of this story said there would be a burial following the memorial. The family says that is not the case, so we have removed it from our story.
