A Buffalo woman was given a free ride to Niagara County Jail this afternoon for allegedly having a free ride in a rental car.
The woman, 53-year-old Lorraine Brown of Kirkpatrick Street in Buffalo rented a car from Discount Car Rental at 6567 South Transit Road in the Town of Lockport. She was supposed to return the car on Nov. 7, according to a complaint made to the Niagara County Sheriff's Office by Discount Car Rental. When she failed to do so, the rental company left messages telling her that if she didn't return the 2005 Chrysler Sebring by this morning, a report would be filed with the police.
While the rental company was making arrangements to have the car towed, Brown exited her Kirkpatrick Street residence and was detained by Buffalo police and then transported to the Niagara County Jail, the report states.
She is slated to appear in Town of Lockport Court on Tuesday.
